Is Orientation mandatory for all new students enrolled at the Oakland campus?
Yes, Orientation is mandatory for all new undergraduate students and includes both the online curriculum and on-campus orientation.
When does Orientation take place?
Saturday, August 31–Tuesday, September 3, 2024
What can I expect during Orientation?
Orientation equips you with all the information you need for success on campus! From student life and support to academics, come ready to learn about all we have to offer.
Can I have family or guests attend Orientation with me?
We highly encourage students to attend Orientation independently as a pivotal opportunity for building community amongst peers. After moving in, families of incoming Huskies are invited to join us for a Family and Friends Welcome Reception from 4:00–5:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 29 (first years), and Friday, August 30 (Global Scholars), at the Mills College Art Museum. Later in the semester, families are invited to return for a fun-filled Family and Friends Weekend from October 18–20, 2024.
What does Northeastern in Oakland provide for student safety?
All of Northeastern University’s campuses are protected by Northeastern Public Safety, which includes a full-service and dedicated police department, emergency management team, and international security division. For detailed information, visit the Oakland campus safety web page.
During Orientation, students will learn about helpful resources including the Safezone mobile app, RAVE Emergency Alert System for campus emergencies, and free shuttle services. Students will receive additional safety information throughout the semester during community tabling events and an orientation event with the Public Safety team.
When do students receive housing information?
Students should have received housing assignments and roommate information from the Housing and Residential Life office the week of August 5. Move-in days are as follows:
- First years: Thursday, August 29, 2024
- Global Scholars: Friday, August 30, 2024
