We are committed to helping students who are raising children while pursuing their degrees. We offer educational/childcare options on campus, community parenting space, and a food pantry to support students in need.
Schools and childcare
Our Oakland campus is home to three schools serving different student populations. Please contact each school directly for specific admission information:
- Las Semillitas Cooperative Preschool is a Spanish immersion preschool started by a group of bilingual families working together to build strong relationships with peers, family, culture, and community.
- The Mills College Children’s School is part of Mills College at Northeastern University and prepares graduate students in education to learn about progressive educational practices that focus on the whole child. Our internationally renowned laboratory school offers four programs: infant/toddler, younger preschool, transitional kindergarten, and K–5 elementary that are available to campus and local community members.
- The Julia Morgan School for Girls is the first and only all-girls middle school in the East Bay.
Located in Rothwell Center, the Parenting Lounge provides student-parents and children a space on campus where children can comfortably relax and play, and student-parents can engage in their studies and build community. The Parenting Lounge includes a breastfeeding nook for nursing parents as well as a refrigerator, television, a toy station, and supplies for kids’ arts and crafts.
Northeastern is dedicated to enhancing access to food and basic resources for our students. Students are not asked to demonstrate need to use the Pantry, and they are welcome to shop from this free service once a week to supplement their food resources. Pantry hours are subject to change, so please refer to the Wellness at Mills Linktree page to access the sign-in sheet.
