Safety and Transportation
We offer a variety of safety and transportation programs to assist you—whether you’re a student, a member of the campus community, or a visitor—as you explore Oakland and the San Francisco Bay Area.
Department of Public Safety
Our Department of Public Safety (DPS) is fully staffed with trained professionals and has distinguished itself by fostering one of the safest campuses in the Bay Area. Dedicated officers monitor campus traffic, patrol the grounds, respond to emergencies, and secure campus buildings. In addition, the DPS has implemented a series of safety measures and put policies in place that cover virtually every possible occurrence from natural disasters to crime.
Our security officers provide the following daily services to the campus community:
- Campus security patrols
- Amber light patrols after dark
- Locking/unlocking facilities for classes and events
- Alarm response
- Emergency response and first aid
- Vehicle jump starts
- Escorts to your car or campus residence hall after dark
- Lost and found
Getting around off campus
You can use our Mills College at Northeastern shuttle (formerly the Mills shuttle) to access a Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) location and the University of California’s Berkeley campus. The shuttle runs seven days a week during the academic year and connects students with many of the exciting cultural and social events in the Bay Area.
City buses stop right outside the front gate to our campus. The AC Transit EasyPass you get during orientation allows you to take the bus to explore the East Bay, San Francisco, and the Peninsula. It’s easy and convenient, and taking the bus helps you lower your environmental impact.
